Ishibutai tumulus

Entering the Asuka region, I visited four tumuli yesterday and ended the day at Kintetsu Asuka Station. Today, I started from that Asuka Station and the first place I visited was the Ishibutai tumulus, it was past 9 AM and there was no one else visiting. Several massive stones, so large that even lifting them with a large crane would not be easy, are tightly piled up to form the tumulus. Beneath those stones is a spacious stone chamber, which can be accessed through a side entrance. I took several pictures inside, but I believe the photos that capture the whole structure from the outside best convey its characteristics. The sunlight was shining from just the right angle, harmonizing with the clear blue sky, allowing me to take beautiful photos. There was a guide board explaining the construction of this tumulus, and I imagined that many people spent countless years building it, roughly a thousand and few hundreds of years ago.
